About data sources

Literature targeting Climate Change effects on freshwater ecosystems is growing exponentially. Euro-Limpacs alone has already produced more than 500 scientific papers. For non-specialists, including water managers and scientists only marginally involved in this field, it is almost impossible to gain an overview.

Which parameters are best suited to judge the effects of Climate Change on freshwater ecosystems? Certainly, each selection is subjective, given the large amount of literature.

Climate-and-freshwater.info employs a combination of Euro-Limpacs results, a general literature review and expert judgment.

The idea behind this website is to summarise and simplify the multidimensional interactions between Climate Change, other stressor types and the biota into “cause-effect chains” and to search for indicators best suited to reflect the individual links within these chains.

Individually, the data originate from: published and grey literature addressing presently used monitoring and assessment systems; our suggestions for indicators for Climate Change impacts, for „flagship“ species and the case studies are based on Euro-limpacs results, expert judgement and recently published papers.

For more information on species see freshwaterecology.info.
